Unveiling the Art of Kutch: LLDC

Hey guys, after my excursion to Manali I m back in my hometown Kutch. The travel bug still persists, so I take small trips in my home town or near my hometown.

Kutch: A jewel in the heart of desert. 

Now, I m not praising Kutch because it's my hometown; I  m praising it coz it's a real raw beauty and quite fascinating too. Kutch is unique in it's geography; It's surrounded by ocean from three sides, it also consist of large area of Rann of Kutch, also it haves the hugely spread-ed grasslands of Banni.
This is all about geography. Now, comes the culture. Gujaratis are famous world wide but Kutchis have their own significance.


The culture of Kutch and its diversity can make anyone in awe. To have a better understanding of my own people's culture I went to LLDC; LLDC is the Living and Learning Design Center. It's a part of Shrujan Trust. The architecture of the place will leave you speechless. Shrujan is the NGO running in Kutch to bring out the culture of Kutch. Also it helps in providing employment to the karigars of Kutch who design and make all the embroideries and leather and mud work at Kutch.

I went inside and i was introduced with a volunteer, who explained me everything about the museum. The Museum is live museum, i.e, the clothes and the embroidered pieces changes every 6 months. Actually Shrujan is doing the research on the different communities of the Kutch and about their art. They are trying to preserve the culture and art of the Kutch by doing so. There are 15+ communities in Kutch; with each community having their own special kind of embroidery and art. There is very less known facts about some of the communities as they mostly reside in village and are not exposed to society much. The volunteer told that the researchers was aware of only 3 types of embroidery done by Sodha communities, but in reality they knew 53 types of embroideries. There are so many unknown facts about Kutch and its art.

The LLDC is also trying to provide the lessons of embroidery to common people, so that the art don't get extinct in this world of technology. I will highly recommend you to visit LLDC.
